When choosing food thickeners or pre-thickened beverages, please consult with your health care professional as to what product is
appropriate for your individual needs, as viscosities vary between manufacturers.

CAN CUSTOMERS MIX PRODUCTS/BRANDS?

At-home customers may mix products or brands as they see fit in order to determine which items work best for them. They can do this by ordering single product units and having them all shipped together in a case or by ordering cases of products.

HOW MUCH DOES SHIPPING COST?

Shipping costs will vary based on the weight, distance and type of delivery. Since we are located in the Midwest, delivery costs nationwide are relatively low. Ground delivery is the most economical.  To avoid paying more for expedited delivery, customers should plan ahead and order as early as possible so they do not run out of product. Ground delivery can take up to 6 business days to arrive. Third day, Second day and Next day delivery are available; however, costs can be significant, sometimes approaching the value the product being shipped.

How long does it take for orders to arrive?

We typically ship within 48 hours after receipt of the order. To view Estimated Delivery Time click here.

Please note: We do not ship on major holidays. (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas)

WHAT IF THE PRODUCT ARRIVES DAMAGED?

HOW DOES MY CLIENT CHOOSE A THICKENER?

Factors to consider when using different thickeners/pre-thickened beverages include:

  • Amounts of thickener required for thickening food/beverages; each brand of thickener can have different directions for using the thickener. Attention must be paid to the thickener amounts and directions for use as described on the packaging
  • Viscosity differences between brands; each brand’s version of Level 2- Mildly Thick/Nectar Like and Level 3-Moderatly Thick/Honey Like consistencies may vary slightly, however, when prepared correctly the advertised consistency should be within the ranges specified by the IDDSI framework. IDDSI recommends using a Flow Test to determine Viscosity. When evaluating drinks and liquidized foods, IDDSI chose a gravity flow test using a 10ml syringe (Order Here), as a practical objective measure to classify drinks based on their rate of flow. The controlled conditions are broadly representative of drinking through a straw or beaker. Although the equipment is simple, it is already internationally standardized and the IDDSI Flow Test has been found to categorize a wide range of liquids reliably, in agreement with current existing laboratory tests and expert judgement. It has been found to be sensitive enough to demonstrate small changes in thickness associated with change in serving temperature. For flow test instructions, click here.
  • Added carbohydrates; if an individual has concerns regarding sugar/carbohydrate intake, they may want to consider using a gum-based thickener instead of a traditional starch-based thickener to avoid additional carbohydrate consumption. Gum-based thickeners add 1 g carbohydrate (5 calories) per serving.  Starch-based thickeners add approximately 4 g carbohydrate (16 calories) per tablespoon of thickener.
  • Using thickeners with pureed foods; all thickeners may be used to thicken pureed foods.  The starch-based thickeners will work better for making a firmer consistency and would be the better choice if the pureed foods are going to be shaped or molded.
